Upon the Sudden Death of Someone too Young

I have, upon occasion, run out of pins.
Stringing up my socks in the sun
My sheets dance in the breeze
I reach in my apron to find it
empty.
I wonder why.
There seemed so many when I started.

My thoughts and emotions are a swirl over this piece. Life is a grand, big thing to contemplate.

Oh this hit home. I've spent the last couple of days trying to explain 9-11 to a couple of kids whose only real reference for death is losing their 5 year old playmate to cancer. Trying to reassure them after they see a scary picture of planes flying into buildings, answering their questions, but knowing that they already doubt me when I say that most people live to a ripe old age. They always mention their friend, Diego.
