New Technology

My husband got me a Mother's Day gift this year. It has come by delivery (something that always makes me giddy) and I almost do not even know how to feel about it, as it really should not have been very high on the spending priority list. I feel a little guilty, but I want to love it. I am slow to convert sometimes, wanting to hang on to my old ways: film cameras, road maps, cds, rotary phones. ;-) ;-) But he is so good to me and always encourages me to be "updated" and to try things that are of the 21st century.

I do not know how to send a text message and only barely how to receive one. I learned only this week that I could even view a picture on my cheapy cheap emergencies-only mobile phone. I struggle with the touch screen on Mike's iphone as it does not seem to sense my touch the way I think it ought to. I still refer to teachers communicating via the "blackboard." My pencil sharpener is manual and I am highly intimidated by "operations manuals." I know there is going to be a learning curve here and I shall probably be forced (for fear of breaking it) to try to use the proper feet. And, certainly, I will have to buy new bobbins and needles because they can't just make them all the same now, can they?

But no matter, the pretty stitches have won me over.

I know exactly how you feel, I have just got a new digi slr and am excited but a bit scared by it at the same time. Have a nice glass of wine and sit down and have a play with it - should help you ease into it a bit. loving the stitching pattern.

I am a technophobe who has no clue about the features on my el-cheapo pay as you go phone and cannot figure out how to do so many things with my blog etc. but neither do I have any creative talents either, whereas you have them by the bucketload. If my husband had bought me a sewing machine I would have first laughed until I cried then explained that it would never be taken out of the box as I cannot sew for toffee. But your husband knew just what would be special for you - what a great gift and already you are doing wonders with it.

So happy for you with the new recruit - they always end up as family you know, and sometimes scattered across the country, as my formers are, I miss them. And interesting you are married to a techy last I heard, you rebel you, things don't change as much as we think in our age! I am picturing the pencil sharpener in your basement when we were little ... had to get on top of the freezer to use it? it is probably still there..

It looks like mine. What brand is it? a brother? It took me a while to get used to mine especially the presser foot being on the side. I reach behind my machine every time. The only time ever used my special stitches I made a mistake and had to rip all the stitches out. It took FOREVER;)

Love the leaf stitch! I would be petrified. My Home Ec teacher used to get so exasperated with me. I had no clue what I was doing.

The stitches would have won me over, too. I'm trying not to be jealous...

I think that I am the last person on the planet that does not have a cell phone. We have a rotary phone (which works, while our other phone likes to die randomly). It's not so much that I'm scared of new technology, it's just that the old technology is normally so much more reliable and sturdy...
